One fish, two fish

It's been a busy day, I'm rushing to finish this carving. It should have been completed last week but life kept getting in the way. It's a primitive style wood carving on a plank of pine; 1 inch thick by 12 inches high and 30 inches long ( or about 2.5 cm by 30 cm high and 80 cm long).

So far my friends who have seen it pretty much break evenly into three camps. Those who like it but don't get the message. Those that get the message and don't like it and finally those who like the message as well as the piece. I'm real happy, I believe art should be ambiguous and provocative when ever possible.

Oscar Wilde once pointed out that the English language is so disorganized that Ghoti could be a perfectly good alternative spelling to the word fish. The Greek letters also spell out the word fish but once it was a coded message for fellow Christians to recognize each other back in the early days of the faith. Both words spell fish but one represents folly and the faith.

Hopefully Friday night this carving will go up for auction at a local charity banquet. Wish me luck.
